Target skills

Mental Health First Aid" training develops not only immediate intervention skills, but also the ability to support people over the long term, while taking care of one's own emotional well-being. The main skills covered are:

  • Spot the signs of mental disorders such as depression, anxiety disorders and bipolar disorder,
  • Assess a person's mental health, identify signs of psychological distress, and use communication techniques such as active listening,
  • React appropriately in crisis situations, such as suicidal ideation, panic attacks or hallucinations,
  • Accompany people in distress towards long-term care, offering them immediate support and directing them to appropriate resources,
  • Develop strategies to manage your own emotional stress as a mental health rescuer and avoid burnout.

Teaching resources, methods and supervision techniques

The teaching methods used in this training program are based on two teaching aids. In the first, all pedagogical elements are described following the program flow. This support is given to participants at the end of the course.

To facilitate the acquisition of targeted skills, the program combines theory and practice, including role-playing and case studies with feedback.

A short illustrated guide is also provided at the end of the course. This quick-reference tool helps to review and apply the knowledge acquired.

Conditions for distance learning

There are several possible ways of organizing the event:
