Objectives

"Be yourself, the others are already taken" - Oscar Wilde

The objectives of the "Better understand the personality of your colleagues" training course are :

  • Identify your personality using the Preferences® personality model and test to discover your fundamental preferences and better understand how they influence the way you work and behave on a daily basis.
  • Discover the personalities of your colleagues and better understand how this influences the way they work and behave on a day-to-day basis. Identify situations where "tensions" or "synergies" are generated.
  • Using the Preferences personality model® to recruit, develop team cohesion, distribute tasks intelligently, manage tensions or conflicts between team members and improve communication.

Target audience & prerequisites

The "Understanding your colleagues' personalities" training course is aimed at all levels of management within the company:

  • Executive Committee and Strategic Management, Middle Management and Local Management.

A good understanding of the French language is required to use the training materials.

Training can also be aimed at non-managerial staff. In this case, the course and topics covered will be adapted and geared towards the objectives of mutual understanding, acceptance and team cohesion.

The course

The "Understanding your colleagues' personalities" training course is divided into three parts, each with an introduction and a conclusion.

Part

Introduction

Introduction of participants and trainer.

  1. What is personality and how does it evolve during childhood, adolescence and adulthood?
  2. What is the deep personality and the adapted personality?
  3. How does personality influence each employee's abilities, well-being, performance and efficiency?
Part

Discover your personality

  1. Participants are encouraged to discover their personalities through :
  2. Personality test Preferences® to identify 5 personality preferences along five dimensions.
    • Relational preference: the type of interaction preferred by people and their level of intensity (relational dose)
    • Perceptual preference: the preferred way of perceiving the world (abstract or concrete), as well as an appetite for creativity and projects.
    • Emotional preference: the preferred way of making decisions (rational or empathic), as well as the way of dealing with conflict.
    • Behavioral preference: the level of energy deployed by the person in daily life, with a preference for intense, medium or calm rhythms.
    • Environmental preference: the way we organize our daily lives, giving priority to organization or adaptation to circumstances and events.
Part

Discover the personality of your employees

Participants are then asked to identify the personalities of their team members (this can be done in one of two ways: with a test or without a test, in an investigative mode). Managers who know their teams well may be able to identify certain personality preferences in their employees, provided they are familiar with the model and the underlying typology.

Taking the test beforehand is obviously a plus

Participants are encouraged to present their personality preferences to the rest of the group, enabling them to discover each other's personalities. This discovery fosters mutual understanding and has a calming effect on tensions and a beneficial effect on synergies.

Part

Using the personality model in different managerial applications

  • Recruit

The Preferences® personality model is an excellent recruitment tool, enabling you to select the profiles whose personalities are best suited to a position, but also to the personalities of their colleagues and their manager.

  • Allocating tasks

The Preferences® personality model makes it possible to assign the right tasks and missions to an employee based on his or her potential. This avoids the mistake of entrusting certain tasks to an employee when these tasks do not correspond to his or her deepest preferences. This employee may then find him/herself a failure, even though he/she was successful in previous assignments.

  • Better communication

The Preferences® personality model enables managers to adapt their communication style to each employee. This is known as "individualized management". The manager adapts his or her postures, attitudes and managerial communications to each employee, thus promoting well-being and efficiency.

Part

Conclusion

The course concludes with a reflection on the management of difference and individualization in the managerial function.

***

The training takes place over one day.

A subscription to the test can also be taken out following the training, so that it can be used freely for recruitment purposes in particular.

We recommend organizing a half-day training session for practice analysis and feedback three months after the training with the various participants.

Target skills

The training aims to acquire :

  • Understand how personality works and its impact on the well-being, performance and effectiveness of employees in the company.

  • Identify the fundamental preferences in your own personality and, by means of a test or observation, identify the fundamental preferences in the personality of your colleagues.

  • Know how to use the Preferences® personality model in your managerial tasks, including recruitment, task allocation, communication and team cohesion.

Teaching resources, methods and supervision techniques

During the "Understanding your colleagues' personalities" training course, trainees are accompanied by an expert trainer. The trainer uses the following techniques in particular:

  • Brainstorming,
  • Knowledge transfer,
  • Concrete examples and case studies,
  • Practical exercises,
  • Educational tools,
  • Role-playing situations.

Example of a pedagogical tool used during training: "Preferences® personality test".
Example of a practical exercise carried out during training: "Left hand / right hand".

Ways of organizing distance learning

If the training is to be carried out remotely, the ZOOM tool will be used.

Pedagogical and technical support and assistance

Support and assistance are provided by the same trainer as the one delivering the training. This support and assistance is provided by e-mail or, in an emergency, by telephone. The trainer's contact details are sent to the beneficiary at the start of the training course. The trainer must reply within 48 hours. If the trainer cannot be reached within this period, the beneficiary may contact the training manager, whose contact details are given in the Welcome Booklet.

Means for monitoring action implementation and results

  • At the end of the training course, the beneficiary fills in a satisfaction questionnaire to assess the benefits of the training.

  • On completion of the training, the beneficiary fills in a certificate of attendance.

  • He/she also takes part in a knowledge assessment quiz.

People with disabilities

Training is open to all, and all situations of disability will be taken into account within the limits of the skills, human and material resources offered as part of the training provided. If ORIENTACTION does not have the material, technical and human resources to meet the needs of a disabled person, the latter will be referred either to the ORIENTACTION group's disability advisor, or to a partner organization in the ORIENTACTION network.
