A skills assessment is a career guidance service enabling an individual to analyze his or her skills, aptitudes and motivations in order to define a professional or training project. Beyond its primary function, the skills assessment offers an opportunity for introspective reflection, contributing to greater self-knowledge. In situations of malaise or suffering at work, this tool proves particularly effective. It provides a safe space in which to identify sources of tension, redefine aspirations and envisage new perspectives, thereby helping to restore well-being and professional fulfillment.

Asterès study: the effects of skills assessment on suffering at work

A study commissioned by ORIENTACTION in 2023 on a sample of 634 people who had completed a skills assessment using the ORIENTACTION method demonstrated the beneficial effects of skills assessment in terms of mental health, absenteeism and productivity.

THE EFFECTS OF A SKILLS ASSESSMENT: AFTER CARRYING OUT THE ASSESSMENT

Research firm Asterès began by studying the effects of skills assessment (before and after the assessment) on six psychosocial variables. The results show spectacular progress on all six dimensions studied. These results are partly linked to the fact that, before starting their skills assessment with ORIENTACTION, six out of ten people had problems with stress, burnout or self-esteem. The skills assessment helps them to return to normal. After redefining their professional project and analyzing their aspirations and skills, people regain motivation and a sense of well-being.

ON THE OTHER HAND, AND FOR THE SAME PEOPLE

Asterès also studied the effects of skills assessment on the quality of social relations at work, both before and after the assessment. The results again show a clear improvement. What's interesting is that these positive effects were also observed in beneficiaries who did not change jobs after the skills assessment. There is therefore a change in the relationship to work that takes place in the context of a skills assessment. Beneficiaries of an ORIENTACTION skills assessment have learned to understand themselves and others better. As a result, they have a better, calmer relationship with their colleagues and superiors.
