"When it comes to the future, it's not about predicting it, it's about making it possible."

The different stages of a school career assessment

ORIENTACTION offers a range of guidance assessment packages, tailored to your child's needs, from as early as 6th grade. We support young people in middle school, high school and university (reorientation and choice of Master's degree), taking into account the challenges of Parcoursup and Mon Master.

The earlier a young person gets to know him/herself, the sooner he/she defines his/her career plan, and the greater his/her chances of doing well at school. What's more, having completed a career assessment improves self-confidence and reduces anxiety.

Here's how a classic career assessment at ORIENTACTION works.

Step 1

A meeting with the parents and the young person

A guidance assessment always begins with a meeting between the guidance consultant, the parents and the young person. During this meeting, everyone can express their needs and concerns.

At home, in Visio or at the office. 45 minutes
Step 2

Interview between consultant and young person

For a career assessment to be successful, the consultant needs to know the young person well (his or her history, desires, but also what worries and stresses him or her, etc.). A relationship of trust must also be established. This is the aim of the interview.

At home, in Visio or at the office. 1 hour
Step 3

The tests

Young people need to know themselves better. They need reference points to help them make choices, and they need to be confident in their choices. At this age, we discover and evolve rapidly. Tests are an invaluable aid in helping them understand themselves better and make the right choices.

At home, in Visio or at the office. 1.5 hours
Step 4

Choosing career paths

Now that the young person knows himself better (values, interests, personality, talents), the consultant can suggest career paths that really suit him. These are the career paths in which he or she will thrive and succeed.

At home, in Visio or at the office. 1.5 hours
Step 5

The young person presents his project to his parents

Once the young person has defined his or her career plan, he or she can present it to his or her parents. The young person must explain why he or she has made the choice he or she has, whether the project is feasible, and how it will enable him or her to develop and succeed in life.

At home, in Visio or at the office. 1.5 hours
Step 6

Young people grow up and take greater responsibility

A summary of the main stages in the young person's career plan is given to them, setting out their choices. The young person emerges from this experience more responsible and stronger. They know why they need to work at school and what subjects they should concentrate on.

Who are school career guidance consultants?

A method created by a doctor of psychology

In June 2024, ORIENTACTION and Dr. Emeric Lebreton, were awarded the 1st Psychologies prize, recognizing the professionalism of their career guidance methods.

Some of the methods and tests presented to the jury are used in ORIENTACTION's school career assessment. Following on from the European award won in 2009, this is further recognition of the quality of ORIENTACTION's services.

Guidance consultants are either :

  • Professionals in the field of career development support who have already helped adults with skills assessments, and who are therefore perfectly familiar with training opportunities and the world of work.
  • Teaching professionals who teach in higher education establishments, and who are therefore perfectly familiar with the world of study and the various training courses available to young people.

How much does a career assessment cost?

You don't give your child a career assessment. You invest in your child's future by having him or her undergo a career guidance assessment. A career guidance assessment will provide your child with :

More motivation

By focusing on your child's interests and strengths, ORIENTACTION boosts motivation, reducing the likelihood of repeating a year or failing at school. The guidance assessment is the key to your child's success.

Optimizing expenses

A career guidance assessment ensures that your choice of studies is financially optimized. No unnecessary expenses for parents.

Stress reduction

Looking for a school, going through Parcoursup is always an ordeal for parents and young people. This generates unnecessary conflict and tension. Thanks to a career guidance assessment, you can put an end to these tensions.

Market fit

The assessment guarantees a career path in line with market realities, optimizing the young person's integration into the world of work once they have completed their studies. The idea is for the young person to quickly find a well-paid job.

Assured fulfillment

By guiding young people towards exciting studies and careers, ORIENTACTION ensures their personal fulfillment. What parent doesn't want their children to be happy?

In short, ORIENTACTION is much more than a guidance tool: it's a passport to a fulfilling educational and professional career.

Ten tips for choosing your career path

Choosing a career path is a crucial step in the life of every secondary school pupil and student. To help you make the best choice, here are 10 practical tips:
    Tip 1.

    Know your passions

Identify what you're really passionate about. Your hobbies, your favorite subjects at school, and the activities you're involved in can be valuable indicators. An orientation aligned with your passions will motivate you in the long term.
    Tip 2.

    Evaluate your skills

Take the time to analyze your strengths and weaknesses. Knowing your skills and the areas in which you excel can help you choose a direction in which you will perform well.
    Tip 3.

    Explore professions

Find out more about the jobs that interest you. Read job descriptions, watch videos and, if possible, talk to professionals in the field to better understand the realities of each job.
    Tip 4.

    Internships

Doing internships or immersions in companies gives you hands-on experience of the professional world. This will give you an idea of the professions that appeal to you, and help you check whether they match your expectations.
    Tip 5.

    Consult a guidance counselor

Guidance counsellors are there to guide you. They can help you clarify your ideas, suggest orientation tests and provide you with valuable information on the different courses of study.
    Tip 6.

    Assessing market opportunities

Find out about job prospects in the sectors that interest you. Some fields of study offer more job opportunities than others, so it's important to consider the practical side of your choice.
    Tip 7.

    Long-term thinking

Try to project yourself into the future. Imagine yourself in five or ten years' time and think about what you'd like to have achieved. This vision can help you choose a direction that matches your long-term aspirations.
    Tip 8.

    See mobility as possible

Think about the possibility of working abroad. Some careers offer more opportunities to travel or settle abroad, which can be an important criterion depending on your desires.
    Tip 9.

    Don't give in to pressure

Avoid choosing a career path simply to please your parents or friends. Above all, your professional future must correspond to your own aspirations and skills.
    Tip 10.

    Staying flexible

Be ready to adapt and change direction if necessary. Career choice is not a fixed decision, and it's possible to adjust your path as you discover and experience new things.
Choosing a career path is a complex but exciting step. By following these tips, you'll be better prepared to make an informed choice that will lead you to a fulfilling and rewarding career. Don't forget that your career path is unique, and that it's important to take the time to think carefully about your choices.
